Biography
Mark Van Buskirk is an oil painter living in the American Midwest. Mark is a professor in the Art Department at Earlham College in Richmond, IN where he teaches painting and life drawing.
Born in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Swarthmore College in 1989 where he graduated with a BA in Studio Art. He received that Altman Award, attended the Yale/Norfolk Summer program, and took additional coursework at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art before receiving an MFA in Painting from Boston University in 1992.
Mark began his teaching career as a TA for Painting Materials and Techniques which included egg tempera, fresco, and making paint. This experience led to an interest in working with materials and is expressed in the current work through the use of traditional materials and preparation methods like linen, rabbit skin glue, and lead ground as well as glazing and other indirect methods of painting.
Mark exhibits his work in solo shows and juried competitions throughout the Midwest and East Coast receiving numerous awards. His work is located in public and private collections. The current work is intended for a solo exhibition in 2022-3.
