The recent series of paintings depict flowers and blossoms surrounding my home. I find the petals and buds captivating for the movement and spirit they suggest and the beauty they add to my life. Their tactile delicacy, monumental form, and volume are fascinating.
Iām inspired to create the perception of light and space in my work by the detail and lush textures of old Dutch still life as well as the air of American Luminism. With careful rendering and attention to detail, I can make one petal hover in front of another, suggest the thinnest of textures, and recreate the sense of wonder I get from the garden.
The precision and control creates a sense of calm that I find positive, reassuring, and necessary. The last several years, and 2020 in particular, have sucked have been very trying and have left many searching for something in which to find joy. With these paintings I hope to share some of mine.
